The Macallan James Bond 60th Anniversary Release has been unveiled to mark six decades of James Bond films.
A celebration of 007 and The Macallan as modern innovators, linked by their Scottish heritage, the remarkable collection comprises six limited edition bottles encasing a single malt whisky in unique packs, each featuring an original illustrative design and colour to denote the decade it represents. The distinctive packaging brings to life the creative development process of the films in a behind the scenes exploration of the James Bond archives.
In collaboration with The Leith Agency, Studio AKA devised and developed The Macallan’s own, beautifully animated, Bond title sequence which transports us through the innovation and archives – featured on the packaging of this release – of the Six Decades of Bond.
To create the 76 second animated advertisement – & 9 social media cutdowns – Studio AKA was granted rare access to Bond’s archives, containing a myriad unique, beautifully hand-rendered pieces by celebrated artists and production designers – including the inimitable Ken Adam – ranging from Goldfinger in 1964 to No Time To Die in 2021.
Along with their creative team, animation directors Marcus Armitage and Marc Craste carefully constructed a narrative to transport us through the six decades. The individual designs and storyboards were woven together in a way to preserve the original artwork’s authenticity.
The resulting film’s narrative and dynamism is a representation of the synergies between The Macallan and James Bond, sharing many moments together on screen throughout the years.
“Getting to see the archive of concept art, production designs and storyboards behind the Bond films was already an exciting prospect. Adding to that, the task of bringing them to life, made this project hugely exciting. We took a different approach to each piece of the archive, so we could really be authentic with how it was animated and capture these iconic moments. Using a mixture of hand drawn, cut out and 3d animation we’ve brought together an action-packed minute of vehicles, gadgets and locations all moving in time to the unmistakable Bond theme tune. It’s a great reminder of all the work that goes into making these movies, and I hope this film can show off the artistry that goes on before the camera rolls.”
