Lights, Camera, Electrons! Dive into the vibrant subatomic world with this digital treat.
Journey of Electricity is a special project – made in collaboration with BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions for Hitachi Energy – which aims to demystify the electricity we all take for granted. Under the direction of AKA’s Kristian Andrews and his dynamo team of animators, we’ve crafted four riveting 40-second films that promise a high-voltage experience.
The cast features a lively group of teenagers — Tahil, Jesse, Oway, and Emma. These intrepid teens each slip through a radiant blue portal, landing in the mesmerising Realm of Electricity. Here, they’re introduced to Electron, their sparky and slightly impatient tour guide, who enlightens them about the mysteries of electricity. Together, they set out on quests to tackle challenges ranging from an overloaded circuit to the intricate energy transition.
From scriptwriting to animation, our team delved deep into the intricacies of electrical engineering and its prospective future. Both Hitachi Energy and BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions championed a dedication to precision, so we were committed to producing captivating visuals and ensuring rock-solid accuracy. Fun fact: Electron’s vibrant design is inspired by the mathematical plots of electron cloud wave functions!
These engaging short films challenged us to show rather than tell, finessing spot-on comedic timing whilst packing many facts into each episode. Every frame is a labour of love, and every second is a blend of humour and information. Tailored for the digital age, the films can morph into various social media formats without missing a beat or a byte. We can’t wait for everybody to be … switched on by these electrifying tales!
