This spot tells the story of a young girl’s efforts to help a homeless Lesser Spotted Woodpecker during the festive period.
The film, for clothing brand Joules’, highlights their ongoing partnership with the Woodland Trust and includes seven endangered species of native UK wildlife: The Hare, the Dormouse, the Redpoll, the Pine Marten, the Red Squirrel, the Capercaillie —and the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker. The characters were animated in TV Paint and are all based on Illustrator Rosie McAdam’s charming designs.

Studio AKA Director Kristian Andrews:
“ Working remotely with our small team of animators, this was a delight to create. During the pandemic, green spaces have become especially precious to many of us. It was wonderful to work on a piece that avoids a conventional Christmas message and instead celebrates these threatened ecosystems. ”
Alex Rizzuto, Brand & Campaign Manager for Joules
“ We’re thrilled to have been able to work with the talented AKA team to bring ‘A Woodland Tale’ to life. We felt it was more important than ever to recognise the need to protect and give back to the environments that have been such a lifeline to us during an incredibly challenging year. Christmas will be a little different this year, but we hope our animation will highlight the fantastic work of the Woodland Trust and bring a little joy to viewers. ”
